How to use it

  1. 1. Search for a town, a city or an address, or try the sample: Penhold, Alberta.
  2. 2. Pick a style: Classic (engraved), Bold (the streets stay as one cut-out piece), Layered (cut streets on an engraved water base) or Minimal.
  3. 3. Tap what you are making: a coaster, a cutting board, a wall map, an ornament or a keychain.
  4. 4. Check the name and the coordinates, then download for LightBurn, as SVG or DXF, or as a picture to engrave.

  • • Layered maps of a lake or a harbour, with the water stained blue

Questions

Where does the map come from?

From OpenStreetMap, the free map made by volunteers. The tool reads the roads, water and parks for your area once and does everything else in your browser.

Can I sell what I make?

Yes. OpenStreetMap allows commercial use with a credit. Add "© OpenStreetMap contributors" on the back, a tag or your listing. The tool can engrave that line for you.

Will a cut-out map fall apart?

No. The Bold and Layered styles check that the streets join into one piece. Loose bits are tied on or left out, and holes too small to cut cleanly are filled.

Which laser settings do I use?

The LightBurn file has starting power and speed for your laser. Test on scrap first, or run the Test Grid to find your own.

Why can't I show a whole city?

A map loads up to 4 km across, so the free map server stays fair for everyone. For a bigger area, pick the main roads only.
